What binding options are available for newspapers?
Saddle stitching (stapled spine) is standard for most newspaper formats. Perfect binding (square glued spine) is available for thicker publications or magazine-style formats. Insert capabilities are available for supplements and advertising lift-outs alongside the main run.
What is saddle stitching?
Saddle stitching is a binding method where staples are inserted through the folded spine to hold all pages together. It is the standard binding for newspapers and is cost-effective for publications up to approximately 5mm thick (typically up to around 64 pages depending on paper weight).
What is perfect binding?
Perfect binding involves gluing the internal sections of a publication into a cover along the square spine. It is used for thicker publications — generally those greater than 5mm thick with a cover stock typically of 100gsm or above. It produces a more book-like appearance and is common for magazine-format newspaper supplements.
